Thanksgiving 09

I am so excited about Thanksgiving this year.

I am headed to El Paso (no, that's not the exciting part)...

the exciting part is who is waiting there for us. There are 9 grandchildren and 7 will be together this Thanksgiving (yeah, couldn't get the boys to come back...sticks in the mud!).

The last time any of us were together was when my 11 year old son was 1! 10 years...and then only 5 of use were together.

So excited! Pictures will be up when I get back.

Have a Blessed Thanksgiving with your loved ones!

We Got Flocked!

Tuesday morning my husband woke up to take the dog out front and found a few visitors...

Apparently one of the private schools in town has a unique way of raising monies for their teachers to attend a conference every year!

My good friend decided we needed a good laugh and paid to have our yard flocked! So funny!

Not to worry...I have paid it forward...to her! I may not have a job when it is all said and done, but it will be worth the laugh!!!

Je-fa-fa Dun-ham (daht cahm)

We recently went to see Jeff Dunham. SO FUN!

He is hilarious...although a bit salty...

As you can tell, I had to download a picture off the net. Security would not let me take my camera in. That seems to happen often at the AT&T center...although, it has never happened to me before.

Been Sidetracked

Sorry I haven't been here in awhile.

Lana talked me in to joining Facebook and I have been spending a lot of time there.

I was very hesitant at first...

didn't think I would like it...

kinda felt like I was too old...

then, I talked to some people and they described Facebook as 'MySpace for grown-ups'

Oh! Cool! I am there!

So, I joined about 2 weeks ago and have found so many people!

Like...

kids I used to babysit that are now in their late 20s, early 30s (yea, if you do the math, that makes me 'pushing 40')

kids that used to live next door to the ones I babysat...that we played with all the time when I would babysit...yup, they have kids now!

best friends of the kids I used to babysit. We went to church with these kids and they, and their parents, always held a special place in my heart!

my best friend from Junior High...who has had a ton of changes in her life that I did not know about.

Many friends from college! Of course, it is a small place, where we knew everybody!

My step-sister that I have not seen nor talked to in MANY years.

Facebook has also helped mend a friendship of mine. A college friend and I ended our relationship on bad terms. We have talked on Facebook, apologized, and now we will be doing lunch next weekend. We both have 10 year old children that we have never met...

Another interesting thing about Facebook is when you find out 2 of your friends, from 2 different walks of life, know each other.

For instance, my best friend from junior high knows a friend of mine from college. It seems as though, when I moved away in junior high, my best friend moved also. She met my college friend in high school...then he goes to college and I meet him...and there we are, all on Facebook.

Another instance, a different college friend of mine is a friend of a woman I worked with after college. They live in the same town now and go to church together.

So interesting how different times in my life are colliding on Facebook.

Let me just say, I don't promote much...but I love Facebook!

If you are looking for long lost friends...kids you babysat...high school sweetheart that you haven't seen in years...Facebook just might be the place to find them...

Summer Comes To a Close

Wow! It has been a crazy, busy summer.

As you know, we bought a house, so that trumped all vacation plans.

Even without vacation, we...

joined a gym and spent a lot of time there...

Did many household projects...

Kaylee went to Mother's Day Out for the first time...

Jake went to Seaworld Camp...

Music Camp...

Children's Camp...

and Theatre Camp (where he played a fabulous lawyer, if I do say so myself!)!

He truly loves being on stage!

Well, now the fun is over...Monday we start the homeschool schedule.

I truly hope we have another successful year!

Have You Heard?

I saw the billboard today!

I was so excited I almost ran off the road!
I immediately called Suzanne!

My all-time favorite artist is doing another concert tour!

The one who makes my heart swoon...

The one that makes my breathing shallow..

The one that I adore!

Isn't he beautiful?

Looks as good today as when I fell in love with him 20+ years ago!

Now, I just need to find someone to go to the concert with...

(because when I called Suzanne, she just laughed at me!)

Barbeque Sauce???

You Are Barbeque Sauce

You are a social person. You enjoy cooking for other people.

You are both skillful and competitive. You enjoy mastering hard tasks.

You appreciate complexity more than simplicity.

Your taste in food tends to lean toward interesting flavors.

You appreciate exotic spice combinations. You tend to like cutting edge, fusion cuisine.

You get along with all personalities from a distance. Except salsa personalities, who always seem to annoy you.

Hmmm...interestng since I don't really like it, but the description fits me well...

My Apologies

Well, so much for NaBloPoMo! Life got in the way!

Here's what has happened in the last week...

First of all, we went to the South Texas Cornfield Maze. I thought it was fabulous...Jake, not so much...Kaylee couldn't have cared less. Here are a few pics of the highlights.

I spent a few days at work...busier than ever...'tis the season!

Then, the cooking began! Which lead to a fabulous Thaksgiving!

Sorry for the week off, but we must live life!

You Can't Have It!

Just wanted to let you know that I went here, to win this! You can go too, but if you win, remember that you took my daughter's birthday gift right out from under her (Feel guilt-ridden yet?)!

What a Great Time!

Photo Highlights of our trip...
(take a minute to study these photos...look at the size of the baskets
compared to the size of the balloons!)

BTW, the pictures don't do the event any justice! You MUST go!

My kids and my favorite cousin!

Jake and Sophia at the museum.

We are home...and exhausted!

We had a fantastic time! We packed all we could into our trip! We visited here and here (which, by the way, was the best I have ever been in! We are now on the bandwagon to get our local one up to par!) and visited some family members!

Remember, we went on this roadtrip with another homeschooling family...and we are all still friends!

Dinner and Dessert?

What do corn syrup, lima beans, lentils, red hots and a jar have in common?

They are the components of your blood!

Today was another fun Science day! We have been studying Life Science.
The first living thing we have been studying is the human...Skeletal System, Muscular System and now, Circulatory System.

Here's what we learned:

Corn Syrup=Plasma - keeps all the components moving and carries nutrients

Red Hots=red blood cells - carry oxygen to all the body parts

Lima Beans=white blood cells - eat harmful bacteria

Lentils=Platelets - plug up cuts to stop them from bleeding

This one will stick in his head for quite awhile!

Conversations with Jake

We were on our way to Chik-fil-a tonight to support Jake's old school (I think this is as important as Christine does) and this is the conversation that took place:

Jake: Mom, can I ask you a question?

Me: Yes.

J: Did you ever like 2 boys at the same time?

M: No.

J: Oh, cause I was gonna ask how you chose Dad, if you did.

M: Oh.

J: Did you date other guys before Dad?

M: Yes.

J: Who?

(I named the very few guys I dated before David...even if you count puppy love crushes, the list is quite small)

J: Did you kiss any of them?

M: Yes.

J: Did any of them want to marry you?

M: Yes.

J: Did they ask you?

M: No, but if they would have, I would have said 'no' because I knew it wasn't right.

J: OK, just asking.

From the mind of a 9 year old boy.

More Ovaltine, Please!

Ok, so, we went to my grandmother's funeral and...for reasons too many to mention here...I did not take a bottle for Kaylee.

Wait, before you start cussing at your computer screen and screaming, "What? Bottle? The child is 18 months old! She shouldn't have a bottle anyway!"

She will not drink milk fom a sippy cup!

Nope!

Not warm, not cold.

Milk belongs in a bottle, juice in a cup.

So, I did not take a bottle on the trip and I did not buy a bottle while I was there. Thus, no milk.

Well, this morning, I put her milk in a cup (after all, she has not had a bottle for 6 days, why reintroduce it?) She took one sip and set it down on the table not to be picked up again.
Until...I put a bit of chocolate in it!

My husband comes in and I asked if Ovaltine milk was better than no milk...
I did not get an answer, instead both he and Jake broke into a simultaneous quote from this movie...

'Be sure to drink your Ovaltine. Ovaltine? A crummy commercial? Son of a...!"

Remember it?

After a nice rendition, we decided that if Kaylee would drink Ovaltine milk, that would be better for her than no milk at all!

Tricked her good! Milk from a cup!

Life Science

Today, Jake and I had a fun day of Homeschooling. We are using R.E.A.L. Science and studying life science. We have been discussing that all living things have cells. Plant cells are rectangular and animal cells are round. Today, we made a model of those cells using lime jello, grapes and lime slices. Way too fun!

Grown Up Evening

Last night, my very good friend and her boyfriend came for dinner. They were kidless for the evening, so I called a set of grandparents and asked them to let our little ones spend the night. We had a quiet evening of wine, cheese, dinner and great conversation...and a small game of Skip-bo.

It was nice to know that we all could still have adult conversations :)
