Did you know that prior to the 1800s, the candidates did not have running mates?
The President was decided with the most votes and the Vice-President was whomever came in 2nd (bet that was interesting...a Federalist President and a Republican Vice-President).
That is until 1801, when Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr tied!
Uh-Oh!
What now?
The Electoral College had to cast the tie-breaking vote!
That's what I learned this week while homeschooling!
